Dr. Sylvia Kalicinski on Resolving Emotional Loneliness for Greater Well-Being
Dr. Sylvia Kalicinski is a therapist, speaker, podcaster, author of the book Lonely AF, A Therapist’s No BS Guide to Feeling Less Alone and mental health advocate. Dr. Kalicinski’s work focus is on destigmatizing loneliness and helping people grow through their obstacles.
Our conversation focused on how family caregivers can land in a place of emotionalloneliness and the negative consequences this can have to their physical and mental health and overall well-being. To help family caregivers address and heal the root causes of emotional loneliness and disconnection, Dr. Kalicinski introduced us to her HEART Method. HEART reframes loneliness not as a personal flaw or failure, but as a healthy biological signal indicating there is a personal need to address.
An important outcome of our discussion is for listeners to recognize that addressing emotional isolation goes beyond helping people become more social. The wonderful result is to help repair their relationship with themselves so they can be seen and build genuine, secure engagements with others, which is the place where we are meant to be!
“Loneliness is an emotion pointing to a personal need.”
